The 1st "University College Hospital CO2 Laser Training and Safety Course" took
place on the 28th November 2009, from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the UCLH Educational Centre, 250 Euston Road, London.

The aim of this one-day course was to cover the important aspects of CO2 laser application in clinical setting and laser safety. It provided an excellent foundation to clinicians planning to practice laser surgery as well as experienced users.
 
Accreditation

    British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons – 6 CPD points
    British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists – 6 CPD points
    British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons – 6 CME points
    British Medical Laser Association – Approved as a training/educational course

 
Attendance

    This course was designed to cover essential aspects of laser safety and additionally give hands-on practical training in the use of carbon dioxide lasers in the free-hand setting, using endoscopic approaches and finally the use of the flexible CO2 laser. The target audience was trainees who are from Plastics, Otolaryngology, Oral and Maxillofacial and Surgical Dermatology backgrounds.

 
Course format

    The course represented an active learning experience (hands-on) with lectures given during the day.
    All delegates were provided with a set of comprehensive course notes. Certification was issued upon completion of the program.
